Tampa Body Sculpting or Liposuction for Men

Suction lipectomy, also known as liposuction, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to remove stubborn fatty deposits from different areas of the body. More men are undergoing liposuction every year and this procedure is commonly referred to as body sculpting. The best male candidates for liposuction are men who are in good shape, but still have troublesome areas that diet and exercise do not improve. All patients who are overweight are best suited with a diet and exercise routine and not liposuction. This is because liposuction should not be used as a weight loss tool.

Traditional tumescent liposuction remains one of the highest patient satisfaction procedures performed in all of plastic surgery. This cosmetic procedure produces powerful results by directly targeting and removing troublesome, longstanding fatty deposits.

Often times, several areas of the body can be treated during a single liposuction procedure. During your consultation with Dr. Fakhre at New Tampa Plastic Surgery, he will help determine if tumescent liposuction is the correct procedure for you!

Reasons for Considering Body Sculpting or Liposuction for Men in Tampa:

  • To remove stubborn fat deposits in men in the following areas:
    • Neck
    • Back
    • Arms
    • Abdomen
    • Hips
    • Thighs
  • To improve the contour and proportions of a man's body

The Male Body Sculpting or Liposuction for Men Procedure

Liposuction is generally performed using sedation or general anesthesia. Tiny incisions are made and hidden whenever possible to perform the liposuction procedure. During the surgery, the areas to be treated are filled with what’s called a tumescent solution. This solution helps to separate the fat cells to allow for their suctioning. This solution also reduces the pain associated with the procedure as well as post-operative swelling. Next, a special liposuction cannula is then inserted through the access incisions, and the stubborn, unwanted fat cells are then carefully removed, creating a more appealing body contour.

During your surgery, Dr. Fakhre will take great care to evenly suction the treatment areas to minimize the risk of contour irregularities. Once a safe amount of fat cells have been removed, the incisions are then closed with absorbable sutures.

Recovery following Liposuction for Men

Every patient is different and recovery times vary depending on the patient and the number of areas treated. It is common for bruising and swelling to occur after liposuction. Although the majority of swelling will resolve after four weeks, the final results of a liposuction procedure will be seen in three to six months. Dr. Fakhre will instruct you to wear a specialized compression garment after your surgery for about one month as this will help minimize swelling and help you achieve the best result possible.

Dr. Fakhre will prescribe you oral pain medication to take as needed following your surgery, although pain is generally well tolerated following liposuction. Complications are rare following liposuction, but as with any surgery, they can occur. By carefully reading and following Dr. Fakhre’s perioperative instructions, you will help minimize the risk of complications.
