Facelifts for Men Tampa

One of the most powerful procedures in all of plastic surgery is the facelift or rhytidectomy.  The aging process produces unwanted changes in a man’s face which include prominent wrinkles and sagging skin. Unfortunately these changes are not reversible with diet and exercise.  The male facelift procedure is able to address wrinkles and loose skin and help create a rested and youthful appearance. Many factors contribute to an aged appearance in men including long term stress, sun damage and genetics.

Men frequently complain of looking older and tired while still feeling great.  These men often are the happiest following a facelift. The facelift for men procedure is designed to re-suspend the sagging tissues of the face and neck as well as remove the excess skin present.  Liposuction of the neck is also frequently performed to remove unwanted fatty deposits that develop with time.

Not all patients age at the same rate and in some men a mini-facelift is all that is required. This procedure involves shorter incisions and less dissection, resulting in reduced postoperative swelling and bruising. It is also generally associated with a shorter downtime than a full facelift. During your consultation at New Tampa Plastic Surgery, Dr. Fakhre will help you determine which procedure is best suited for you.

Reasons for Considering a Mini Facelift or Facelift for Men in Tampa:

  • Sagging of the jaw line
  • A weathered and tired appearance
  • Excess and loose skin of the neck and face
  • Prominent wrinkles along the neck and cheeks

The Male Facelift Procedure

Both the full and mini-facelift procedures in men may be performed under general anesthesia or sedation. Incisions are carefully placed along the hairline, as well as in front of and behind the ears. The excess skin is then dissected off of the underlying soft tissues and special sutures are placed to resuspend the sagging tissues of the face.

The excess skin is redraped, tightened and neatly tailored to produce a natural look. After the excess skin has been removed, tiny stitches are used to close the incisions and help minimize scarring. Often times an additional incision is made in under the chin to help tighten the neck and remove any unwanted fatty deposits in this area.

The facelift procedure is performed on an outpatient basis with the patient returning home later the same day. The surgery times vary, but generally last between three to five hours depending on the extent of dissection that is required.

Recovery following a Facelift or Mini Facelift for Men

A special facelift bandage is placed around the face and neck following the procedure. This serves to limit swelling and help reduce the amount of bruising that occurs. Patients should plan for a restful week following surgery. It is also advised to have a friend or loved one available to assist you during the early stages of recovery. Dr. Fakhre may place small drains during surgery, and these are generally removed the following day. Sutures placed are typically removed after one week.

Dr. Fakhre will prescribe oral pain medications to take as needed after your surgery. The pain following a facelift is generally well tolerated. Although rare, complications can occur. By carefully reading and following Dr. Fakhre’s perioperative instructions, you can help minimize the risk of complications.
