Tampa Buttock Implants or Buttock Augmentation

Buttock augmentation surgery is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the shape and contour of the buttocks. Patients best suited for buttock augmentation are those with poorly developed gluteal muscles and resulting 'flatter' than ideal bottoms.

There are two options available for buttock augmentation surgery. The first is with the use of FDA approved silicone implants and the second is via a fat transfer by using the patient’s own fatty tissue. At New Tampa Plastic Surgery we only offer buttock augmentation with the use of silicone implants.

The limitation of the Brazilian Buttock Lift or fat transfer procedure, is that even in the best hands in the country, only about half the transplanted cells live. As such the results initially look good, however after six to twelve months, more and more fat cells have died and there is a significant loss of volume with a less than ideal result. Furthermore, surgeons are unable to control which cells survive or fail, and as such patients often develop irregularities and lumpiness of the buttocks. These are unsightly and almost impossible to correct.

Dr. Fakhre therefore only offers buttock augmentation with silicone implants. These implants are specially designed and contoured to best produce an appealing shape of the buttocks. The advantage of this procedure is the results are very predictable as it does not rely on transplanted cells which fail and are absorbed. The important thing to note is because the implants are close to the bottom, patients must be on a strict hygiene regimen before and after surgery to reduce the risk of infection. During the consultation process, Dr. Fakhre will personally examine the patient so a suitable implant may be selected.

Reasons for Considering a Brazilian Buttock Lift or Buttock Implants in Tampa:

  • Presence of a disproportionate figure with a 'flat' bottom
  • Desire for an increased size with improved fitting of clothing
  • Poorly developed or shaped buttocks leading to an unappealing appearance

The Buttock Augmentation Procedure

Buttock augmentation procedures are performed under general anesthesia and last anywhere from two to three hours.  During the surgery a small, vertical incision is made between the buttocks and a pocket is created to accommodate the implant. Careful measurements are made before surgery to determine the best placement of the implants. Once the pockets are made, then the implants are carefully placed in a sterile fashion into the right and left buttock pockets. Once satisfied with the implant placement, the incision is closed in layers with absorbable sutures. This is an outpatient procedure and patients are usually discharged home later that same day following their procedure.

Recovery following Buttock Augmentation

Generally, post-operative instructions require plenty of rest and limited movement in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time.  Bandages are applied right after surgery to minimize swelling and provide support. The scar resulting from surgery is carefully placed so as to minimize visibility.

Patients often will have pain following this procedure, however pain is generally well controlled with oral medications.  Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but all patients are asked to avoid sitting or laying on their bottoms for at least one week and to avoid strenuous activities for one month. While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following the directions that are given after the surgery.
