This is a must visit link and allows patients considering plastic surgery to confirm the surgeon they are considering is board certified in plastic surgery. Do your homework and be sure to check and see if your prospective surgeon is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. If a search here yields no results, then that surgeon is not a board certified plastic surgeon, period. Cosmetic plastic surgery procedures should only ever be preformed by a board certified plastic surgeon.
American Society of Plastic Surgeons
This is another important website and is an additional way to vet a prospective surgeon. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the largest and most respected professional organization of plastic surgeons in the entire world. ASPS member surgeons are held to the highest ethical standards as well as that of training and practice. Only board certified plastic surgeons may be members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The ASPS website offers a detailed view of a variety of plastic surgery procedures, and is the authority for cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Do your homework! Be sure your prospective plastic surgeon is a member of the ASPS.
Florida Board of Medicine License Verification
Today there are many different specialties attempting to enter the cosmetic plastic surgery market. These physicians often advertise themselves as "plastic surgeons" and nothing can be further from the truth. There are emergency physicians, family practice doctors and even pediatricians performing liposuction and other cosmetic plastic surgery procedures right here in Tampa and Wesley Chapel, Florida! These physicians often list "Board Certified" on their websites but fail to state in what specialty.
The easiest way to verify your physician is a board certified plastic surgeon is to check the American Board of Plastic Surgery website listed above. Remember, if a search here yields no results, then the surgeon you are seeing is not a board certified plastic surgeon!
If you would like to go a step further and find out what type of physician they are, use this link for the Florida Department of Health License Verification. Search the name of your physician, then click on their license number to open their profile. Next click on the Practitioner Profile, followed by the Education and Training tab.
