Tampa Male Rhinoplasty or Nose Job for Men

Nose surgery or rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that reshapes the nose to create a more aesthetically pleasing and better proportioned nose. Some common areas for correction include the dorsum of the nose which can be enlarged producing an unattractive "hump", the tip which may be too bulky, droopy or lacking definition and the nostrils which may be too wide. Year after year, rhinoplasty remains one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States.

Rhinoplasty surgery may be performed as an open procedure where a small incision is neatly placed at the base of the nose, or as a closed procedure where all incisions are hidden inside the nostrils. At New Tampa Plastic Surgery we offer both types of Rhinoplasty procedures. During your consultation with Dr. Fakhre, he will help determine which type of rhinoplasty is best for you.

Occasionally breathing problems may also be corrected at the time of rhinoplasty. An examination of your nose will help determine whether this is necessary. If it is deemed that your nasal airway may be improved with rhinoplasty, a portion of the procedure may be covered by your health insurance policy.

Reasons for Considering a Rhinoplasty for Men in Tampa:

  • Improve the appearance of the nose
  • To create a more balanced facial proportion
  • Reduce an overly pronounced dorsal hump
  • Refine an otherwise bulky or drooping nasal tip
  • Correct a deviated or crooked nose or breathing passage
  • Repair a recent or old nasal fracture or injury
  • Improve breathing through the nose

The Male Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts anywhere from one to four hours depending on the extent of the surgery. The procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery, with the patient returning home later the same day.

In cases where multiple areas of the nose are being addressed, an open rhinoplasty is often preferable because of the better access it provides. In situations where only a single area is being addressed, such as a prominent dorsal hump alone, a closed rhinoplasty is often possible. Both approaches utilize tiny incisions so as to expose the underlying nasal bone and cartilages. This support framework of the nose will be carefully adjusted to achieve the desired outcome. Frequently when cartilage grafts are needed to better shape the nose, a septoplasty is performed in order to harvest the donor cartilage. In addition to this, a nasal bone fracture may also performed to narrow what is a widened nose.

Recovery following Rhinoplasty for Men

Following rhinoplasty surgery, there are two types of splints frequently used by Dr. Fakhre. The first is an internal splint that serves to stent the airway open. The second is an external splint that holds the nasal bones and nasal cartilages in line. Both of these splints are usually kept in place for about one week after surgery. Swelling after rhinoplasty may be very significant and may be minimized keeping the head elevated for the first few days after surgery. A restful week should be planned for following rhinoplasty.

While patients may have pain following the procedure, Dr. Fakhre will prescribe oral pain medications effective at controlling postoperative pain. Complications are rare after rhinoplasty, but may be reduced by carefully following Dr. Fakhre's postoperative instructions.
